Stellantis, a US-European automaker known for its brands such as Jeep, Dodge, and Fiat, introduced a new service on Tuesday, June 27, that aims to alleviate the concerns of electric car drivers by providing charging units for their homes, businesses, and public stations.
The company, which also manufactures vehicles under the brands Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Maserati, RAM, and Peugeot, named this new offering Free2move Charge. Its primary goal is to eliminate “charge anxiety” among electric car owners.

Owning an electric car comes with a set of challenges, from arranging the installation of a home charger to navigating different charging networks while on the road. Free2move Charge seeks to address these challenges by providing electric car drivers with access to various charging networks, as well as financing options and installation services for home chargers.
For instance, the service aims to grant drivers access to almost all of Europe’s 500,000 public chargers, similar to Volkswagen’s We Charge initiative. Additionally, Free2move Charge intends to offer solutions to businesses for managing the charging needs of their electric vehicle fleets.
Ricardo Stamatti, Stellantis’ head of charging and energy unit, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its customers in the electric vehicle market. “As the pace of mainstream EV adoption accelerates, our customers need us to be more than just a mobility provider”, he stated in a press release.
While the service is currently launching in the United States, Stellantis plans to make Free2move Charge available in 11 European countries by the end of this year.
Stellantis has set ambitious goals for its electric vehicle lineup. It aims to transition to selling exclusively battery electric passenger vehicles in Europe by the end of the decade, with these vehicles accounting for half of its passenger and light-duty truck sales in the United States.
