Stellantis N.V. and Hon Hai Technology Group, commonly known as Foxconn, have announced the establishment of a 50/50 joint venture called SiliconAuto. This collaboration aims to design and distribute cutting-edge semiconductors specifically for the automotive industry, including Stellantis, starting in 2026.

SiliconAuto brings together Foxconn’s expertise and development capabilities in the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector with Stellantis’ comprehensive understanding of diverse mobility requirements worldwide. The joint venture will serve as a specialized source of semiconductors for the automotive sector, catering to the increasing demand for computer-controlled features and modules, especially in electric vehicles.
The product range offered by SiliconAuto will meet the future semiconductor needs of Stellantis, Foxconn, and other customers. This includes STLA Brain, an advanced electrical/electronic and software architecture developed by Stellantis, featuring full over-the-air updating capabilities.
Ned Curic, Stellantis’ Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the significance of a reliable supply of essential components for their product’s software-defined transformation. He stated that the joint venture enables them to build vehicles that seamlessly integrate into customers’ daily lives and deliver exceptional capabilities for years after leaving the assembly line.
Jerry Hsiao, Foxconn’s Chief Product Officer, expressed anticipation for an extraordinary future in electric vehicle mobility empowered by SiliconAuto’s vertical integration capabilities and resources. He believes that this collaboration will enhance the competitiveness of their customers.
SiliconAuto’s headquarters will be based in the Netherlands, and its management team will comprise executives from both Stellantis and Foxconn. Stellantis will provide input to SiliconAuto to enable and deliver the necessary capabilities for future battery electric vehicles and multi-energy vehicle platforms.
The establishment of SiliconAuto is a result of an agreement made in December 2021 between Stellantis and Foxconn to develop a range of semiconductors for automotive applications. In addition to SiliconAuto, the two companies also have the Mobile Drive joint venture, which focuses on the development of smart cockpits incorporating consumer electronics, human-machine interfaces, and services.
