Opel announced that it has reached another significant milestone on its journey to becoming an all-electric brand with the introduction of the fully electric Astra. This marks the first time in its long success story that the Astra is available as a fully electric vehicle, offering drivers the pleasure of emissions-free driving, even on longer journeys. According to WLTP, the Astra Electric can cover up to 418 kilometers without needing a charging stop. Furthermore, with its lightweight design, weighing only 1,679 kilograms, the Astra Electric provides a quiet and nimble driving experience, evident in every pedal push and corner maneuver.

In addition to its electrifying performance, the new Astra Electric boasts an inspiring and bold design, accompanied by top-of-the-line equipment. Standard features include numerous electronic aids, while the optional Intelli-Drive 2.0 system offers semi-automatic lane change assist and intelligent speed adaptation, providing enhanced comfort and safety. The interior offers a certified ergonomic Active Sport driver’s seat and a fully digital Pure Panel® Pro cockpit with two 10-inch displays and a Multimedia infotainment system, ensuring seamless connectivity and entertainment. In Germany, the Opel Astra Electric GS can be leased for a monthly rate starting at €399.

Opel Astra customers now have more drivetrain options than ever before. Alongside highly efficient combustion engines, the Astra is already available as an electrified plug-in hybrid, including the flagship model, the Astra GSe. Furthermore, the lineup will be expanded this year with the introduction of the battery-electric Astra Sports Tourer Electric, making it the first all-electric estate from a German carmaker.

The new Astra Electric provides a thrilling and environmentally responsible driving experience. Its electric motor delivers 115 kW/156 hp and a maximum torque of 270 Newton meters, available from the moment the accelerator pedal is pressed, ensuring quick acceleration. Weighing in at 1,679 kilograms, the Astra Electric’s low curb weight further contributes to its lively performance. Unlike many other electric cars with speed limitations, the Astra Electric achieves a top speed of 170 km/h. Drivers can choose between three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, based on their preferences.

Powering the Astra Electric is a compact 54-kWh lithium-ion battery that offers efficient packaging, low weight, impressive range, and short charging times. The vehicle can travel up to 418 kilometers without emissions, consuming just 14.8 kWh of electricity per 100 kilometers according to WLTP. The regenerative braking system enables energy recovery while driving, and fast charging at a 100-kW direct current station can charge the battery to 80% capacity in under 30 minutes. Additionally, the Astra Electric comes standard with a three-phase 11-kW onboard charger for convenient home charging.

The battery is positioned in the underbody, ensuring no compromise in passenger or luggage space. With the rear seats up, the Astra Electric provides 352 liters of luggage space, which expands to a generous 1,268 liters with the seats folded down. The low placement of the battery also lowers the car’s center of gravity, enhancing stability and allowing for a sporty seating position. Additionally, the Astra Electric boasts a 31% increase in torsional stiffness compared to other Astra models, providing a solid and enjoyable driving experience.

The Astra Electric GS sets the bar high with its standard equipment and design. The body’s torsional rigidity, coupled with effective noise attenuation measures, ensures occupants enjoy a comfortable and serene driving environment. Laminated windows come as standard, effectively reducing exterior noise. The AGR-certified ergonomic Active Sport driver’s seat offers exceptional comfort and stability, and a comprehensive set of assistance systems is included as standard. Optional Intelli-Drive 2.0 integrates various electronic aids, introducing semi-automatic lane change functionality and intelligent speed adaptation, while Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel Light with 168 LED elements enhances safety.

Inside the Astra Electric, the fully digital Pure Panel® immerses the driver in a modern cockpit experience. Powered by Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon® Automotive Cockpit Platform, the infotainment system delivers enhanced graphics, multimedia features, and computer vision functions. The intuitive human-machine interface comprises two large 10-inch widescreens that display crucial information such as battery charge status and range. Climate control and other settings can be easily adjusted with the touch of a button. The Astra Electric also features a large E-HUD head-up display and natural voice recognition, allowing drivers to maintain focus on the road and traffic conditions.

At first glance, the Astra Electric exudes a sense of direct and dynamic driving. The standard 18-inch, five-spoke, high-gloss black alloy wheels complement its bold and distinctive appearance. The two-tone paintwork, with carbon black roof and exterior mirror-housings, further ensures that the Opel Astra Electric stands out as a unique and eye-catching vehicle.
